Gist of the Book:

This book is about the ecology of freshwater and terrestrial habitats in Hong Kong. It is intended for those who want to know more about our forests, streams, shrublands and grasslands, and about the animals that live in them. The urban and agricultural lowlands are not included because the ecology of these highly managed areas is fundamentally different from that of the semi-natural uplands that we have written about. Even here , however, we make no claims of completeness. Much still has to be learned about Hong Kong’s terrestrial and freshwater habitats. The inclusion of topics has depended upon our own interests, and the research undertaken by our colleagues and graduate students at The University of Hong Kong.
